  28. Activity 15.1: no narration?
  29. Activity 17.1: The illustration for a housefly is wrong. A firefly does not look like a fly with 2 wings; it is a beetle with 4 wings covered by elytra, and the head has long antennae and is covered by a pronotum.
  30. Activity 17.1: "genetic transformation" -> "genetic engineering"; transformation means something else.
  31. Activity 17.1: "When stimulated, the luciferase enzymes begin to glow within the cytoplasm." Luciferase is a protein and cannot glow. It is luciferin that enables bioluminescence.
  32. Activity 17.4: "photocopies" -> "copies".
  33. Activity 17.5: "complementary pairs" -> "homologous pairs".
  34. Activity 17.6: "digested with three different enzymes" -> "digested with three different restriction enzymes", "which individual is the child's father" -> "whether individual one is the child's father".
  35. Figure 21.7: missing balloon captions. ALso, plants are not good illustrations of allopatric speciation: wind or insect pollinating agents can easily cross a water barrier.
  36. Chapter 19, Figure 19.2: The peppered moths should not be shown against tree bark; they do not usually perch there. Better yet, do not show this flawed study.
  37. Chapter 19, P. 325: "embryonic gill pouches" -> "embryonic pharyngeal pouches".
  38. Activity 20.1: mix of "NEXT" and "BACK" buttons confusing.

What are the key effects on the diversity of life after this mass extinction? answer should be C (New ecological and evolutionary opportunities will become available to those organisms that survive.), not B (Entire groups of organisms will not survive.)?

  44. Chapter 28 essential ideas: "Plants gather mineral nutrients directly from the soil at the roots": Mineral nutrients dissolved in water are absorbed by plant roots from the soil (The minerals are not taken "directly" from the soil, but need to be dissolved in water, and "gather" is a poor word choice).
